Coffee Corner’s “Living Tour!”May 15-25
The mountains greeted us every morning for nearly five years of our five-year residency in South Africa. On hot days, the clouds would spill over them like a white tablecloth preparing the banquet of our day.
And every day was a banquet— a banquet for the senses. The birdsong, the sound of the river, the Ibis calling, the wind and the dancing blue gums, the wine, and the smell of someone’s braai cooking.
We were surrounded by vineyards, because the Cape of Good Hope produces a lot of wine…delicious wine. And we enjoyed quite a bit, patronizing all the farms in our district and beyond. And we didn’t eat. “Eating” is a mechanical response of the body to appease a demand for more calories. In the Cape of Good Hope, we dined on a culinary wonder of combinations not found anywhere else we’ve traveled.
If this sounds like heaven to you, why wait until death to experience it?…we’ll take you there.
For 10 Days, Get off the treadmill! We work hard. All of us. Especially these days when you have to take out a second mortgage to buy eggs. But why do we work so hard?
Consider that we have a relatively short lifespan. And this life is punctuated with sadness, difficulties, suffering, and weariness. On the other hand, we also experience joy, wonder, discovery, warmth, friendship, fellowship, pleasures, and bliss. Sadly, the latter experiences tend to be snowed under by the demands of our clients, vendors, and the tax man. We forget that some of the most wonderful parts of life are the times we do nothing “useful” or “productive.” For example, drinking a glass of good wine is not necessarily “productive.” But it is good. A beautiful view is not “useful.” But beauty is worth more than our methods of measurement.
Our Cape of Good Hope “Living Tour” is all about this. It’s about pauses. It’s about peace. It’s about stopping long enough to remember why we work so hard: to live. Well, live a little! Do something useless. Be completely un-productive for 10 days. You won’t regret it.
The first curated “Living Tour” of the Western Cape of South Africa will be led by Matt Chancey of Coffee Corner. Tour is limited to EIGHT PASSENGERS ONLY. Want more details? Check our Tour page!
