Coming in Spring of 2025!
From the very moment we knew we had a building and could reopen on Main Street in 2023 (thank you, Keisha Hall!), we wanted to provide breakfast and brunch. We tried it in a limited way with our tiny kitchen area and a couple of air fryers, but we just didn’t have the capacity to serve more than half a dozen people at a time. Without a full kitchen, our dream could not become reality.
Additionally, we needed a chef who had the same vision and desire to create locally sourced meals that draw from farms around us and in the south, including free-range eggs, local cheeses, Conecuh sausage, and true southern grits. You see those amazing ingredients in the photo grid of menu items above, prepared by the very talented Chef Christian Izquierdo, who will jump on board this year to serve up his own signature dishes with a decidedly foodie flair.
As a plan started to form in our minds, a new opportunity presented itself: the chance to pitch a plan to a panel of judges to win a $10k Bright Ideas grant for the equipment we’d need to make this dream come true. After giving our pitch and listening to the other pitches, we waited an anxious 25 minutes for the judges’ final decision. We were absolutely thrilled when they called out “Coffee Corner!”
As soon as the funds have been disbursed, we will make our major purchases and schedule the installation of our range hood and new sinks, then hook up the gas and call for a health department and fire code inspection. Once we’ve got all our ducks in a row and do some trial runs of the menu, we will be ready to re-introduce Coffee Corner as a destination for a breakfast and brunch experience like no other in town.
And, yes, we will still serve our coffees and teas and offer take-out! We will be interviewing and hiring new staff to help make everything run smoothly with the same warmth and hospitality you’ve come to expect. We do not anticipate having to close down, since no building or remodeling is required to create the open-concept kitchen behind our main counter. We will keep the drinks flowing as we proceed, so come see us—and get ready for a whole new breakfast and brunch experience SOON!
